June 6, 2025

Heycroft Primary School, part of the South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT), is celebrating the re- opening of the school swimming pool following years of closure. With financial support from SEEAT, the much-loved facility has been given a new lease of life and is once again ready to welcome pupils back into the water.

The official reopening took place on 4th June with the Mayor, Cllr Nigel Folkard and the Mayoress, Mrs Marion Folkard cutting the ribbon to mark the occasion.

The school has teamed up with Mobile Pools UK, who will be operating the swimming pool on the school’s behalf and thanks to community donations from the Friends of Heycroft parents’ association and sponsorship from local business CAD on Track, the cost of lessons has been greatly reduced for all families, with the school committed to providing swimming opportunities for all pupils.

The swimming pool will now offer pupils the opportunity to develop essential water safety skills, improve their swimming ability, and engage in healthy, active learning in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Headteacher Andy Abel said: “We are thrilled to see the pool back in action. As a seaside city, we appreciate the importance of supporting our pupils to develop their swimming skills so they can enjoy the water safely. Swimming is a vital life skill. It’s been wonderful to see the children’s excitement and enthusiasm as they return to the water.”

Andrew Cooper, CEO of SEEAT, added: "At a time when many schools have closed their pools, this project reflects the shared commitment of Heycroft Primary School, supported by SEEAT, to provide an exceptional learning environment and opportunities for every child.”
