International Women's Day 2019

March 5, 2019 by Sammy Cohen

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women and recognise them for their achievements without any divisions. The reason as to why IWD is celebrated on the 8th March is due to how the women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917 on March 8th, adopted by the United Nations in 1975.

The theme for this years IWD is #BalanceforBetter - “Better the balance, better the world”. On this day, there will be an event held in the Civic Centre in Southend-on-Sea, from 10:00am - 2:30pm. This will be a chance to celebrate women, promote health and wellbeing, and also feature some interactive sessions for women, including women’s self defence demos.

Come and enjoy the array of stalls on how to build your skills and find support, as well as light lunches and refreshments and a panel discussion from experts exploring different issues affecting women in our contemporary society.

This event will be supporting the Red Box Project Southend.

If you’re looking for something smaller and want to get involved with your more local community Temple Cafe, opposite Chalkwell Park, have created an event, on the 8th March which will celebrate IWD. This event is free to join and you can have a chance to network with other powerful women at the event. They have laid on many activities, including:

  • - Beginners jogging/wellbeing walk
  • - Yoga taster
  • - Meditation
  • - Mindfulness actives
  • - Photography workshop
  • - Nutrition workshop.

Make sure you get in contact to garuntee your space!
