Introducing Southend Writers and Artists Network

November 11, 2020

The Southend Writers and Artists Network (SWAN) was formed in 2011 as a way to unite and promote local creative talent. Our purpose is to give everyone in the local arts scene a voice and a way to share their work with the community. We are an active group of nearly 500 members, comprising many different creative practices including: painters, writers, poets, artists, photographers, designers, singers, actors, directors, as well as arts, ceramics and textile crafters, and musicians.

Never has there been a more important time as now to support you local artists! Because of the pandemic we have been unable to run events, talks, or school visits this year, nor have most been able to qualify for any government financial support, which is calculated on commercial rents, whereas most artists work from home.

In normal years SWAN members run Christmas events around the town, but this year we are collectively running an online 2020 Fair.

Please do take a look at our fair and the individual artists homepages where you will find original art, books about your local town in all genres and age groups, music CDs by incredibly talented local musicians, and unique home made craft gifts all at very reasonable prices.

SWAN is always looking for new members and is free to join. Anyone involved either professionally or as hobby in the creative arts and lives in the Southend area is welcome to join. We chat on a daily basis, share events and inform other of their projects and achievements. Find us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/SouthendWritersArtistsNetwork
