Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Charity Scores with Southend United Fans

October 14, 2025

On Saturday, 4th October, a dedicated team from Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Charity took to Roots Hall, home of Southend United, for an inspiring day of awareness-raising and fundraising at the club’s home fixture against Aldershot Town. Their presence aimed to spotlight the often- overlooked issue of male breast cancer while also supporting women affected by the disease. A team of 11 enthusiastic volunteers engaged thousands of home and away fans, including supporters who had travelled from Aldershot. The charity’s vibrant presence was felt throughout the ground, with volunteers sharing vital information and encouraging conversations about breast cancer in men as well as women. The day was a resounding success, with the Lady McAdden team raising over £1,310 thanks to the generosity of supporters. Fans responded warmly to the initiative, including lifelong Southend United supporter Tommy Watson, who said: ‘It was brilliant to see the Lady McAdden out in force at the match. Breast cancer has touched my family, so it meant a lot to see the club helping to raise awareness, especially about male breast cancer, which isn’t talked about enough. It’s great to see a local charity out there in the community, supporting both men and women affected by this disease.” Lady McAdden’s Fundraising Director, Tanya King, commented on the impact of the event: “Our partnership with Southend United gave us a fantastic platform to raise awareness around male breast cancer. The first team got behind the cause with a brilliant awareness video and programme feature, and the response from fans on the day was incredible. We’re so grateful for the club’s ongoing support and of course, we were all celebrating that 3–0 win too!” The collaboration between Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Charity and Southend United Football Club marks another stride in tackling the stigma around male breast cancer and ensuring that vital conversations reach all corners of the community. The charity extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the day’s achievements and looks forward to building on this success in future partnerships.
