Legal Eagle Q & A: Underage tanning

Question: My daughter is 14 and came home on Saturday burnt from using a sunbed in a salon (not in Leigh on sea).  I thought that under 18s could not use sunbeds? What's the law?

Answer: I am sorry to hear this and yes, you are quite correct, the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 makes it unlawful and the responsibility of the salon to check the age of clients. I suggest that you report the salon to the local authority and if your daughter is badly burnt that you take her along to the doctors for her own health and as a matter of record.
