Legal Eagle Q & A: When am I officially divorced?

March 25, 2019 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question:  I have received my decree nisi.  Does this mean that I am completely divorced now or do I need to do anything else?

Answer: This is not the end!  This means that the court has decided you are entitled to a divorce.  You will need to apply for a decree absolute to finalise things but take care because once you do have the decree absolute you may not be able to re-negotiate anything further in respect of the financial settlement.
