Legal Eagle Q&A

March 7, 2017 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Q: I pick my son up from school each Friday for my overnight contact. This week when I picked him up I was shocked that his mother had dressed him up as Snow White for World Book day. What rights as a separated father do I have on things like this?

A: This is actually quite a difficult question to answer! I presume that your son lives with his mother and so she has day to day control over his life and this is your issue? If you seriously struggle with decisions that she makes about his well-being and think that he is suffering emotional or other harm as a result then you should seek advice about where he lives and whether it is in his best interest that he lives with you. If this is not the case then despite your own feelings, if your son is happy and balanced with the arrangements then it is important to keep him so!
