Legal Eagle Q & A: Where do you stand with divorce and confidentiality when your soon to be 'ex' is so well known?

Question: I live in Leigh, and after the most terrible family Christmas seriously feel that I need to speak to someone legal about a divorce. However, I am worried that my husband is really well known locally and that he will find out, or that anyone I go and see will know him and be on his side. What can I do to be sure that does not happen?

Answer: Leigh on sea is a close community and so I understand your concern, however, all solicitors have a duty of confidentiality to any client that they work for. They also have to act in their best interest, and cannot represent them if they have a conflict of interest. So if you go to see a solicitor, they should ask for your husband’s name to check that they do not have a conflict of interest with him, and they will then keep all your information confidential. I hope that this helps, and good luck!
