Leigh Light's 2017

Leigh Lights 2017

Once again the fabulous Leigh Lights event didn’t disappoint. It was again a huge success with crowds lining the street for the parade and people enjoying the festivities.

Thanks to Christmas mad Simone, Scott & Stapleton again threw open our doors to welcome people to our office. Of course the main attraction was the appearance of the main man himself.

Children looked on in wonder as the queued to meet Father Christmas in his now famous Grotto. Of course he checked to make sure they had all been good (surprisingly all of them said that they had?) and asked them what they would like him to get them for Christmas. Requests varied from horses, cars and old favourites like Lego and dolls.

There was plenty of other things to keep everyone entertained including superb face painting, a crafts area for the children to write and post their lists and the parents weren’t forgotten about either with a constant supply of mince pies, mulled wine and Prosecco.

We even managed to make sure that we had snow outside our office and there was a warm welcome back for the 6ft penguin.

Leigh Lights is not the same without seeing a young child freaking out in floods of tears being forced by their parents to have their photo taken with an oversized stuff penguin. The office was packed to the rafters and the only way you could make out who the staff members were was by their stunning costumes. These included the Ice Queen, an Elf or two, a Reindeer and the full cast of a Panto with crowd favourites Peter Pan and Tinkerbell plus the evil baddie Captain Hook who the children took great pleasure in giving a firm thumbs down and booing wherever he went.

We managed to pause to take the time to watch the parade go past. An excellent display of firemen, lifeboat men, mountain bikers, baton twirlers, dancers and every Disney character you can imagine. Father Christmas must have dashed from our office because he was on the final float giving every a wave and the crowds were loving it.

Leigh Lights has now got to be the largest event in the local calendar and it is so heart warming to see the public and traders give up their time to contribute towards such a great evening.

I do hope that it continues and gets the support it so greatly needs and deserves.

This year at Scott & Stapleton we had the pleasure in supporting the Magic Makers charity which helps less fortunate children in the area.

We are still counting the takings but we would like to take the opportunity to thank the wonderful Leigh on Sea community for helping us raise another record amount.
