Leigh-on-sea Ironworks Founders nominated for HERO Award
The founders of The Ironworks in Leigh-on-sea a popular local community hub have been named 2026 MP HERoes in recognition of their grassroots work and community impact.
Natalie and Ami Solomons, co-founders of The Ironworks based at the Leigh Community Centre, were selected for the national accolade by local MP David Burton-Sampson.
The MP HERO Awards, delivered by Savvitas in partnership with NatWest, highlight women in business across the UK who drive positive change within their constituencies, with members of parliament personally nominating a local figure to celebrate.
Launched as much more than a traditional café, The Ironworks has grown into a central pillar for Leigh-on-Sea, focusing on community connection, tackling social isolation, supporting local talent, and hosting diverse cultural projects.
"Although the award has our names on it, it really feels like recognition for The Ironworks as a whole and everything that has grown around it over the years," the founders shared in a statement, expressing gratitude to their staff, volunteers, local partners, and the Leigh-on-Sea Town Council.
The recognition carries a national stage for the local venue. In November, Natalie and Ami Solomons will travel to the Houses of Parliament to join fellow honourees from across the UK for the official celebration event.
"From The Ironworks in Leigh-on-sea Community Centre to the Houses of Parliament—who’d have thought it?" the founders said. "We are incredibly proud to be representing Leigh-on-Sea and Southend and, most importantly, flying the flag for what can happen when a community comes together."
