Leigh-on-Sea Set for Weekend of Folk Music and Family Entertainment

June 24, 2026

Leigh Folk Festival returns this weekend, once again transforming our historic seaside town into a vibrant hub of music, culture and community. As the UK’s largest folk festival, the event attracts thousands of visitors and showcases the unique character of Leigh-on-sea as one of Essex’s most popular coastal destinations.

Steeped in maritime history, Leigh-on-Sea began as a thriving fishing and trading port, with records of the settlement dating back to the medieval period. Its picturesque Old Town, lined with cockle sheds, fishing boats and winding streets, remains a reminder of the town’s rich heritage and enduring connection to the Thames Estuary. Today, Leigh-on-Sea is known for blending this historic character with a flourishing arts and cultural scene.

Taking place across Leigh-on-Sea, with the heart of the festival centred in Leigh Library Gardens, the four-day event will feature a packed programme of live music, dance, storytelling and family entertainment. Visitors can enjoy performances across two stages in the gardens, plus events at Cafe Hoga Del Mar, the Fishermans Chapel, St Clement's Church and the Broadway Pub exploring the town’s independent shops, cafés, pubs and waterfront attractions.

The festival reflects the creative and community-focused spirit for which Leigh-on-Sea is renowned, bringing together local residents, performers and visitors in a celebration of folk culture old and new. Traditional acoustic acts share the bill with contemporary artists and emerging talent, creating an eclectic programme that mirrors the town’s blend of heritage and modern creativity.

Beyond the music, festival-goers can enjoy dance displays, yoga, independent food traders, spoken word performances, comedy, workshops and family activities, making it a major cultural event for the town and wider region.
