Leigh Regatta 2016

August 29, 2016 by Liam Jefferies

On Sunday 18th September Old Leigh’s High Street will be playing host once again to the Leigh Regatta, and this year’s looks to be the best yet!

Organised by the Lions Club of Leigh-on-Sea with the 3rd Chalkwell Bay and 4th/6th Leigh-on-Sea Scouts, the Leigh Regatta features all sorts of local craft stalls, children’s games and an array of entertainment for all ages.

Starting at 10:30am with a traditional service from the Salvation Army, there will also be performances from local folk dancers such as Cockleshed Clog, the Daisy Bowlers, the Rom Shanty Crew, the Tameside Mummers and Tailor Maid.

If you’re feeling competitive there’s a whole host of games and competitions, ranging from the tug-o’ war to the cockle-eating challenge, and a Leigh Regatta Picture competition organised by the Art Ministry.

Parking is free behind Leigh-on-Sea railway station, thanks to C2C, and St. John Ambulance will be on hand, the cost of their services kindly donated by Hair & Sons, along with some balloons for children attending the event (and probably adults too, if you ask nicely).

All this plus bands, rowing, and a visit by the RNLI hovercraft, weather permitting, so come on down and let’s make this year’s Leigh Regatta one to remember!
