Local hospice charity looking for London Marathon runners to support their hospice care
Havens Hospices is seeking runners who have managed to grab a place at this year’s world-famous London Marathon to join ‘Team Havens’ and help raise vital funds for their hospice care.
This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon will be taking place both in its traditional format on 3rd October in London and as a virtual event where runners can take on their 26.2 miles anywhere in world.
Havens Hospices has some virtual event places remaining for those who are considering taking on the renowned event closer to home this year. Participants have 24 hours to complete their marathon on 3rd October and will receive their own coveted London Marathon finisher’s medal. This is a perfect opportunity for those runners who missed out on taking part in London but who would still like to wear a finisher’s medal with pride.
For those locally who have successfully received a ballot place at this year’s marathon, Havens Hospices is asking them to join ‘Team Havens’ to help support their local hospice charity and to raise vital funds which means they can continue to provide free specialist palliative nursing and supportive people of all ages across Essex.
By joining ‘Team Havens’ you will benefit from a great support package where runners can take part in organised group events with other runners supporting the charity, take advantage of sport therapy sessions, travel by coach to the event on the day and run in a Team Havens running vest with pride.
Judy Grocott, Voluntary Income Manager at Havens Hospices said: “We would love to welcome more runners to ‘Team Havens’ this year so we can train together and help you get ready for your big day. We support participants every step of the way from sign up to finish line - everyone on the team is incredibly supportive of each other and there is great camaraderie. However much you can raise for Havens Hospices, every pound will be ‘Make every day count’ for the adults, children and families we care for.
“After a difficult year of fundraising after event cancellations like last year’s London Marathon we need the help of our communities more than ever so we can continue to raise much needed funds for our hospice care which hasn’t stopped during the pandemic. We have continued to provide palliative and supportive care to those who have needed us most at difficult times in their lives. So, if you can consider joining us to support your local hospice charity we would be ever so grateful and will be there to support you every step of the way.”
Places for the virtual event are free, the charity just asks you to pledge to raise at least £250 in sponsorship. For more information about joining ‘Team Havens’ for this year’s London Marathon and to express your interest visit www.havenshospices.org.uk/londonmarathon .
