Local Sea Scouts clear up bank holiday mess in Old Leigh

May 30, 2017 by Leigh-on-sea

Whilst the Bank Holiday proved a massive success for many business' in Leigh and Southend, with both local's and visitors flocking to our Town, the beach was sadly left in a state of disarray with rubbish strewn everywhere.

A recent problem of underage drinking in Leigh has been reported and actively dealt with by the police with regular patrols and dispersing of the youngsters, however, it sadly wasn't just them disposing of litter in such a dangerous and irresponsible manner over the weekend.

Southend Borough Council had prepared for an increase of visitors and special measures were put into place to cope with the possibility of larger volumes of litter including deplying a beach rake machine and extending the hours of extra litter pickers.

However, not all young people were up to no good over the weekend. We would like to extend a massive amount of gratitude and thanks from us here at Leigh-on-sea.com to the local Sea Scouts who spent half of what should have been a fun filled evening for them playing 'Mud Olympics', clearing up the rubbish and bottles that had been left by the thoughtless people over weekend!

Keep our little beach clean!
