Marketing - Is Yours Producing Results?

Survey group Opinion Matters have done some research within the small business community and came with some rather startling results:

• Only 39% of businesses completed their planned marketing activity

• 11% never had any marketing campaign

• 33% rated their own effort at less than 5 out of 10 (must do better)!

BUT

• 87% of the surveyed group said that marketing has a positive effect on sales

• 77% said that marketing is important to the success of the business • On average a marketing campaign resulted in increased sales of almost 10%

Why are businesses not following through or even implementing such an important part of their business strategy? The results reveal that lack of money was one reason but most important was prioritisation and lack of time. Buying stationery featured higher on the daily task list of a small business than marketing activity! – A crazy statistic if ever there was one.

To ensure that your business is reaching its full potential an effective marketing plan is essential. If you haven’t got a plan, then it’s time to think about formulating one. If you have one then it’s about time to evaluate the success of the plan. Needless to say, planning takes time and it may prove more cost effective more effective to outsource some elements of that plan from formulation to execution.
