New skate park set to open in Southend

A new skate park is due to be built in the centre of Southend to replace the current makeshift one outside Southend Victoria Station.

The plans, which are beind headed up by Councillor James Courtenay have been 5 years in the making. An exact location for the park is yet to be confirmed but will be in a central position.

Mr Courtenay, who joined the council in 2012 and is responsible for children and learning, is keen to add to the wheeled sports facilities already located in Westcliff and Leigh, enabling not just skate boarders, but people with bikes and rollerblades to have a fun yet safe place to visit.

The council has already allocated £250,000 to the scheme with plans to secure further grants.
