Legal Eagle Q&A: Q: I am getting really fed up with cars parked across my drive! What’s the legal position please?

Question: I live just off Leigh Broadway and although I sympathise with shoppers who cannot find a parking space I am getting really fed up with cars parked across my drive! What’s the legal position please?

Answer: If you have a white line painted across your drive way then technically it is an offence for the driver to park there and they can get a ticket. You can call the police who may turn up and who may then help out by telling you if the owner of the vehicle lives nearby or not (but they cannot give you specific details), and they may or may not give out a ticket. You could run out to the Broadway and grab a helpful traffic warden. Frustrating I know.
