New Summer Menu Lunch Review The Royal Hotel, Southend
Summer sophistication sums up the historic Royal Hotel in Southend with its gentlemen’s private club/boutique hotel décor, wonderful service and fantastic sea views. What better way to spend your afternoon or evening.
With a new summer menu and great special offers in June we popped along to sample their fare. Surrounded by the cheerful chatter of well-fed diners we sat with the windows wide open, enjoying the glorious sea view and gentle Caribbean like breeze.
The new menu is sublime with so many wonderful dishes to choose from.
We chose the home-made bread board and pork and apple puff pastry tart to start. The bread board with its sundried tomato butter and black garlic mayo was a taste sensation and perfectly complemented the chunks of hot fresh bread. The pork and apple tart reminded me of wonderful dishes my mother used to make with home-made rough puff pastry; something of a labour of love to create but gloriously melt in the mouth to eat.
Our main course of pan-fried salmon supreme was served with a celeriac & dill puree, charred baby leeks, potato gratin & lemon sweetcorn relish. The puree was smooth and creamy whilst not taking away the taste of the perfectly cooked herb crusted salmon. Paired with my all-time favourite (potato gratin) I was in heaven.
The pan-fried pork tenderloin came wrapped in prosciutto on a bed of kale, apple & red onion salad. With a silky parsnip puree and fantastically flavoured jus, the meat was wonderfully succulent (although it was a portion far too much for any normal person). The whole dish was thoroughly enjoyed; well done chef.
Although full to bursting we could not resist sharing a pud and was so glad we did as our black forest cake with blueberry & blackberry compote, white chocolate & rose petal whipped cream was wonderfully adorned with rich summer fruits and a perfect end to lunch.
To enjoy their wonderful dishes this June The Royal Hotel has some outstanding offers:-
