No hefty fines for kids taken out of school in Southend

March 20, 2018 by Leigh-on-sea.com

Figures have revealed that parents taking their children out of school to go on holiday in the Southend area are not being fined.

in 2016/17 Essex County Council fined 3,165 parents for taking their children out of school in term time compared to none last year.

The initial £60 fines were introduced in 2013, which rise to £120 if unpaid and a further £2,500 and potential jail term if taken to court.

Southend Council's Education department have expressed that they take an individual approach to each case rather than immediately fining parents but there will be cases where they will have to take action and use the force of the law.
