A notice of election for the Southend West constituency has been published.

The election will take place on Thursday 3rd February 2022.

UK Parliamentary Election - For the Southend West Constituency

An Election is to be held for a Member of Parliament to serve Southend West Constituency. Nomination papers can be obtained from the office of the (Acting) Returning Officer, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 9SB, during the times stated below.

Nomination papers must be delivered to the (Acting) Returning Officer, Electoral Services, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 9SB on any working day after the date of this notice, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m but no later than 4pm on Tuesday 11th January 2022.

If the election is contested the poll will take place on 3rd February 2022.

Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 18th January 2022.

The payment of the required deposit of £500 may be made by means of legal tender (cash). Payment may also be made by the electronic transfer of funds, provided that the funds are cleared by 4pm on 10th January 2022.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 9SB by 5 p.m. on Wednesday 19th January 2022.

Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 9SB by 5 p.m. on Wednesday 26th January 2022.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 9SB by 5 p.m. on 3rd February 2022. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 26th January 2022. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 26th January 2022.

Please note that Belfairs Methodist Church will not be used as a polling station. St Peters Church, Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea will be used instead.
