Old Ship Pub In Leigh-on-sea to Open as Hotel

October 13, 2023

The former Ship Public House in New Road, Leigh-on-sea is to be converted into a 15 bedroomed boutique hotel with an expected opening date of summer 2024.

The East Anglian Pub Company who own the property were originally granted conditional planning permission before lockdown in July 2019 to convert the building into a 14 bedroomed hotel.

The original application expired in July 2022 but the owners have recently resubmitted the application with updated plans. The new plans are for a 15 bed hotel with restaurant and extended licensing hours. They also include car parking for 7 cars and bicycles plus a taxi drop off point.

The plans show that the property will be sympathetically restored to its former glory with replacement timber framed windows and doors, balconies to most rooms and vaulted ceilings.

As Leigh-on-sea is becoming a popular tourist destination especially for London visitors a local hotel in the area is much needed.
