Our Leigh Community!

November 21, 2014 by Rob Kahl

I am going to take the opportunity this week to not talk about property. I know that seems a bit odd for a property blog but please bare with me.

I would like instead to talk about our community. I believe we are extremely lucky to live in such a great place as Leigh on Sea and have the benefits of the community within.  I really don’t think there are many better examples of this than the annual Night of the Lights in Leigh Broadway; a huge event attracting hundreds of people from far and wide, organised by Leigh Town Council with the helping hand of an army of volunteers plus the support of numerous local businesses.

This year, this fabulous event has been re-branded as the ‘Night of the Lights’ and looks set to be even bigger and better. The turning on of the lights has been changed to a huge procession starting at Kings Road going right through Leigh Road & The Broadway ending at Marine Parade.

As well as the procession there will be a funfair, lots of music with choirs and bands and most businesses I have spoken to are having some form of event. It looks set to easily be the best yet.

Scott and Stapleton (with leigh-on-sea.com) are no different. We are fully immersing ourselves in Christmas cheer with an extra helping of festive fun apparently! I am delighted to say that our special guest this year will be Father Christmas himself who is popping in to see the children to make sure they have been good this year and are deserving of a present or two. He will be ably helped by his Elves who will be there to assist things go smoothly and ensure that Santa doesn’t get too out of puff as he has a busy few weeks coming up.

Other attractions in the office include mulled wine to keep the parents happy and a stall offering crafty bits & pieces. It looks set to be a great evening and I am sure that wherever you choose to watch the procession you will sure to have plenty to keep you amused.

We have so many events in Leigh throughout the year (all advertised on Leigh-on-sea.com of course). We are extremely fortunate that so many people are passionate about our town and community and are prepared to give up their time to help out at these numerous events. Things like the Folk Festival, Leigh Regatta, Art Trail, Leigh Maritime Festival plus huge events like Village Green in Chalkwell.

None of these would be possible without people volunteering so maybe next year you could consider giving up a little bit of your time for your community and helping out. I am sure that every organisation involved will be grateful of any assistance that you could provide.
