One of Leigh's longest standing pubs closed down

Sad day as one of Leigh's most longest standing pubs closes

Local's have been left taken back as one of Leigh's longest standing pubs closed it's doors earlier this week with a simple Facebook post.

The Ship, based in New Road opposite the Old Town, posted a simple 'status' saying "Due to unforseen circumstances The Ship is currently shut. Thank you for everything and we wish you all good luck in the future".

The building, which was originally a mansion house a couple of hundred years back before opening as a pub in 1828, left posters on display featuring future upcoming events showing no signs that the closure was planned.

The pub has closed a few times over the years and the Facebook post perhaps hints that this is only a temporary closure.
