Shiny, Happy People

Shiny, happy people

Once again Leigh-on-Sea is being featured in the National media. Articles in the Daily Mail, The Times, radio features and even on the T.V.

This time (well all of the time actually it seems) the news about our town couldn’t be any more positive. Even if I had tried to sit down and write something myself to promote Leigh-on-Sea in an even greater light I don’t think I would have even thought about this one.

Apparently Leigh-on-Sea is the happiest place to live in the U.K.

Rightmove (http://www.rightmove.co.uk) conducted a survey and asked 24,000 people a variety of questions and we have come out on top! This isn't just because of the normal things that I keep banging on about like the easy commute in to London and the great schools, this was based upon things like a strong community spirit and a sense of belonging.

Now obviously I agree entirely with the findings and spend all of my days with a fixed grin on my face like a deranged air stewardess, but, the question on so many people's minds; will this latest survey have any effect on house prices or the popularity of our town?

The last time we were featured so heavily in the national press was in 2015 where we came 4th in The Times list of the best places to live in the U.K. The article came out in March and up until that point in the year everything in the housing market was normal and things were ticking along fine.

After March the Leigh-on-Sea housing market went crazy and house prices shot up. Interest came in from all areas and demand far outstripped supply with our limited housing stock. Our area has always proved extremely popular (and quite right too) but this sort of demand was unprecedented.

From a professional point of view I hope that this latest positivity has the same effect but sadly, I don’t think that people will get quite as carried away. The national housing market and the economy in general is in a very different place than it was in early 2015.

We have a new Prime Minister, apparently we voted to leave the EU (although I struggle to find anybody that voted out) and allegedly the economy is in such a state that interest rates have been dropped to an all time low of 0.25%.

The housing market in Leigh on Sea is always crazy. Demand is extremely high. People love the small town feeling with the larger town amenities, transport links and we often have people from far and wide attracted to our little town. That I am sure will remain, but maybe, just maybe, people wont get too carried away with the hype? Who knows?
