Take A Walk In The Park Day - 30th March
What better way to wind down after a long busy day than to go for a leisurely stroll in one of Leigh-on-Sea’s most popular and loveliest parks. National Take a Walk in the Park day falls annually on the 30th March.
1. Chalkwell Park
The base for the summer popular Village Green festival, Chalkwell park has 27 hectares featuring different ornamental gardens, cafes and even athletic course and fields. Within this park, there are a number of colourful bedding displays and even a rose garden, recognised by the National Rose Society. This would be the perfect place for an evening walk.
2. Belton Hills Nature Reserve
Debatable whether or not this area is classed as a park, however, the 22 hectares of Local Nature Reserve on the steep slopes overlooking the Estuary is a really lovely place to take a stroll. This area is owned and managed by the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, making sure it is kept care of at all times.
3. Priory Park
Not only can you enjoy a walk around the vast 32 hectares of Priory Park, you can also enjoy the historical artefacts dotted around the area. Visit the Prittlewell Priory museum to get a better understanding of the historical aspects of the area and the grounds that surround it.
4. Belfairs Woods
With 84.7 hectares of space, there is an array of activities available in the park. Whether it be just the gentle walk through the woods or even taking part in a pottery class or playing a game of bowls, Belfairs wood has it all.
5. Eastwood Park
Eastwood park is only 6 hectares but that does not stop it from being an area packed with a lot of different sporting equipment, such as 3 football pitches, basketball courts and a bowling green. Why not get the whole family involved and take the children to the playground?
Make sure to add your images on social media using the hashtag #TakeAWalkInTheParkDay, to show off where you’ve been and who you’ve taken that walk with!
