The Baby Project

The Baby Project, Leigh on Sea

You’re trying to get pregnant, and it’s taking a little longer than you’d like. You are pregnant, and have growing curiosity, anxiety even, about labour and birth. You’ve recently welcomed your baby, the rest of the world has gone back to its day job, and you suddenly have to cope with soothing and feeding and caring for this child, whilst wondering if you will ever feel like yourself ever again. Six months along and it’s time for solids, you’re wondering where to start, and worrying about choking.

Wandering along the Broadway in a sleep deprived haze, everyone around you seems to have it together, right?

I don’t mean to paint a dreary picture, and of course parenthood can be light and joyous, but the everyday is often challenging. Consider this….

We are not meant to live the way we do- small, nuclear families, often many miles apart from our mothers, aunties, sisters, cousins. Cast your mind back to a time when 3 generations commonly lived under one roof, and consider that these women knew what to expect. Raising a child was a team effort, and they had chipped in, and listened to, and observed other mothers, women who in turn were there to ease their load. They had seen variations of normal too, and knew they were not alone. Although most of us would probably not choose to move back in with our parents, we can only dream of that level of support at what can be an overwhelming and bewildering time. Instead, we watch others around us seemingly coping brilliantly, and wonder how they are doing it. Or how come their baby feeds so easily and ours doesn’t. Or how they look like their pre-pregnancy selves again.  Or how they have immaculate houses. Or how they get round Waitrose without a furious protest from baby.

I have heard this time and time again from new mums, the endless comparison, and judgement- real or imagined. Where have our old, self-confident selves run off to? Add to this that continuity of maternity care is virtually non-existent, and that partners are often commuting to long days at work, and many of us are experiencing a sense of bewilderment.

Enter The Baby Project, Leigh On Sea. Members of this group are driven to use their skills to empower and support local families, from fertility concerns through to baby’s first birthday and beyond. In forming the group, I have specially selected women whose integrity is beaming, and who are striving to make life easier and more positive through their work. I have either been their client, or known their clients, and wished I had known them sooner! Some of the services are fairly mainstream, or becoming so, but are delivered uniquely, with a truly holistic approach. Others are lesser known, with profound benefits, and once you experience them, it’s hard to believe that people manage without them.

This is the purpose of The Baby Project, Leigh on Sea- to join together and spread the word to anyone who might benefit- we may not be your mother, your sisters, your cousins, but we are here to help.

Come along to our free event on Saturday June 13th at Leigh on Sea Community Centre, and have a little taste of what is on offer in Leigh on Sea! We are running a number of free workshops over the afternoon, covering Wrapping Your Newborn, Baby Massage, The Truth About The Mummy Tummy, Hypnobirthing, Doulas and Weaning. There will be giveaways, some special guests, and value packed goodie bags for the first 50 families through the door.

The Baby Project’s services are varied, but they are united in their holistic, family focussed approach. We want to enhance your experience of parenthood, to make the highs euphoric, to support you through the lows, and to tackle everything in between together.
