The Bucket List

Somebody once called me Leigh’s answer to SJP… a huge compliment in my book and I guess my ever growing shoe collection only but confirms that.

Im not saying I have SJP’s witt, SJP’s charm or SJP's enviable hair that we’ve all spent hours trying to recreate, but, like her, I live by one main rule…. it’s always hoes before bro’s.

So there I was, Saturday night, with one of my nearest and dearest friends, glass of Prosecco in hand (standard) and trying to work out some sort of action plan to try and resolve my personal crisis I was going through. The far too obvious points of lots more nights out drinking Prosecco (to block out the pain), holidays (a tan always makes you feel better right?) and shopping trips (maximum credit card blow out allowed), were quickly added to an ever growing list, but it suddenly occurred to me, that these were the sort of things that we would ultimately be doing anyway and I needed something more.

It made me think about what i'd actually achieved over the last fews years and I couldn’t help but wonder where time had gone. It felt like only yesterday that I was jumping on the bus into Southend with the knowing excitement that the £5 earnt from working in the Greengrocers was clearly only going to be spent on three things; bus fair, a Maccy D’s and a new dress from Miss Selfridge Discount store which conveniently located itself just inside The Royals. It was a much simpler time where you were so uncool if you didn’t know the Macarena Dance off by heart, where Rimmels Coffee Shimmer was the only lipstick of choice and the only way to contact somebody was on their home phone! … and suddenly I realised all of this, was 20 years ago!

As the Prosecco haze gradually took it’s presidence, I realised that the numbness of alcohol, being tanned or having an overflowing wardrobe that SJP would be proud of wasn’t going to quite do it for what I was going through… and so, we made a very adventurous Bucket List!

Bucket List’s were originally created by people looking to make the most of life before they ‘kicked the bucket’ but nowadays, with people wanting to literally make each day memorable (and so they should), they are set with a much shorter time scale in place…. and in our case, the somewhat scary, out of comfort zone, permanent and in some cases damm right crazy stuff that we found ourselves adding, all have to be achieved in the space of just 12 months!

So, if you see somebody running naked in the rain along Marine Parade, Thelma and Louise lookalike’s cruising down The Broadway clearly about to set off on a road trip or you hear the sound of two wailing cats at a local Open Mic, then you’ll know that we’ve made a start on our Bucket List and maybe, it’s about time you make yours!
