Tips on a beautiful healthy home this Autumn by Zoe

October 28, 2025

Hi, I’m Zoë from Beautiful Healthy Home, your local interior design studio that puts health at the heart of design.

This month’s blog dives into the rich palette of Autumn. Don’t you just love the colours that Autumn provides? - Southend city is awash with mellow yellows to startling burnt oranges - such a visual treat! The air has definitely got a chill in it now and as the days become shorter, naturally our homes become the heart of family life. This season is all about retreating indoors, gathering with loved ones, and surrounding ourselves with warmth and comfort.

Layering warm earthy tones, natural textures and seasonal accents can create a home that feels both cosy and sophisticated as we transition into the cooler months. Plus the sales are on! Grab yourself a bargain in time for Christmas.

A Rich Autumnal Palette

Autumn is known for its warm, grounded colours – think russet, burnt orange, cinnamon, and soft caramel. These shades instantly add depth and warmth to a room. Start small if you’re unsure: scatter cushions in terracotta or mustard, a chunky throw in deep plum, or even a single accent chair upholstered in a rich fabric. I am loving Habitat’s Jesper Fabric Accent Chair in jewel green. Pair it with an orange herringbone throw and you have a burst of inviting cosy colour. Add BHS’s Saskia Bubble Glass Arc floor lamp and you have the perfect reading corner for those darker evenings.

If you’re feeling braver, consider painting a feature wall in a warm neutral like clay or taupe. These hues create a cocooning effect without overwhelming the space.

Layer Natural Textures

Texture is key to making a room feel layered and inviting. Autumn offers the perfect excuse to swap out lighter summer textiles for something cosier. Natural textures are often practical as well as beautiful, standing up to daily family life, and the more natural the material, the less toxic chemicals you bring into your home. Try draping Cox & Cox’s chunky knit blanket over the sofa for warmth, adding a couple of scatter cushions for texture and a sheepskin rug underfoot. Natural materials like wool, linen, cashmere, sheepskin and organic cotton help to ground the look and give a sense of timelessness.

Add Seasonal Accents

You don’t need to overhaul your entire home to embrace Autumn. Small, thoughtful details can make all the difference. For kitchen table or sideboard displays, it’s time to move away from fresh summer blooms to dried grasses, willow, twisted hazel or eucalyptus branches - or just grab a handful of rosemary stems from your garden paired with branches from the snowberry bush (in season right now!) and you have added a touch of Autumnal wonder to your table. The array of pumpkin and gourd colours are so beautiful - I love to gather my favourites and display them in a rustic bowl in the kitchen.

And the best thing about the Autumnal months? Those darker evenings call for candles. A cluster of candles on the mantelpiece instantly creates atmosphere - choose scents like cedarwood, ginger or cinnamon for an Autumnal sensory layer but be sure to avoid synthetic fragrances - choose natural wax candles scented with essential oils.
