Overwhelming response to Christmas Toy Drive

December 17, 2014 by Joanna Harrison

A Senior Councillor has praised the generosity of residents and businesses across the Borough who have responded overwhelmingly to the call for toys for vulnerable children this Christmas.

The Essential Living Fund Team has collected over 325 toys and they are still coming in and the Southend branch of Cooperative Funeralcare has also kindly donated toys worth £200. Some toys have already been delivered to children’s centres and distribution will continue throughout the week to other children’s centres and food banks across Southend.

Cllr Graham Longley, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “This is an excellent response and I would like to thank all who have taken part in making Southend’s vulnerable children a little happier this Christmas. I would also like to thank the Essential Living Fund Team for their work in collecting and wrapping all the toys and Cooperative Funeralcare for their very kind donation.”
