A Christmas Fixture

December 17, 2014 by Joanna Harrison

For the first time in over a decade, Southend can now boast a professional theatre company producing top quality comedy and drama. Running in partnership with The Cricketers' Pub, Deadpan Films and Fatboy Productions, Southend Rep Theatre Company.

Their first production A CHRISTMAS FIXTURE by Ryan Philpott, is playing at The Cricketers Pub, London Road, Southend (16-23 December), Evenings 8pm.

A humorous take on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, it's Christmas Eve and Fudgely Rovers FC are bottom of the league. With a festive fixture list from hell and half his squad out injured, first-team coach Bob Crouch is 'down to the bare bones'. Not that he's getting any sympathy from multi-millionaire club owner, Sir Eddie Dickens.

When Sir Eddie tells his coach that the team must win their Boxing Day fixture if he is to keep his job, poor Bob looks set for a sleepless couple of nights.

But that's nothing compared to what awaits Sir Eddie, when he returns to his lonely penthouse apartment …

Starring a host of local talent such as Sebastian Abineri, Ryan Philpott, Ali James, John Keating, John Oakes and George Kemp. A Christmas Fixture is a nicely sardonic alternative to the traditional Yuletide Panto. ADULT CONTENT...PARENTAL GUIDANCE ADVISED.

Writer and Leigh lad Ryan Philpott is aiming to give Southend a real Theatre company that the town can be proud of. However this needs local support so please go to Eventbrite and buy your tickets, and if you go Tuesday the 16th or Wednesday the 17th the tickets are on 2-for-1 or just £6 on the door!
