Work Starts at The Grand

On Wednesday builders were seen at The Grand Hotel site situated on the Leigh Road. However work on the site, to turn it into a boutique hotel with spa, restaurant, piano bar, 20 bedrooms and bridal suite is yet to start as the builders were only there to carry out maintenance work such as roof repairs by the landlord as part of the deal with Mick Norcross to then take it over. Mick Norcross, who spoke to the Echo, then explained that there was to be a 12 month subsidence period before any work could begin that would then take 12-18 months to finish.

The Victorian hotel first opened its doors in 1899 to attract tourists after the small town became more popular, it closed in 2008 after the group that ran it, Orchard Group, went into adminstration. Mick Norcross signed the lease in September this year and the hotel is due to reopen around 2015.
