Your vote matters – don’t lose it

Thursday 9th April 2015

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is reminding all local residents that the deadline to register to vote in the May 2015 Parliamentary, Borough and Parish council elections is Monday 20th April.

Those who are not already on the electoral register can register easily online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

For those who want to vote by post, applications must be made by 5pm on Tuesday 21st April. This is also the deadline to amend or cancel an existing postal or proxy vote.

New applications to nominate a proxy to vote on your behalf must be made by 5pm on Tuesday 28th April.

Emergency proxy vote applications in the event of medical emergencies or if a person is called away for employment related issues can be made until 5pm on the day of the election.

Rob Tinlin, Chief Executive of the Council says: "It is vital that as we approach the May 2015 elections as many people as possible are registered to vote so they can have their say on issues that affect their lives. It is quick and easy to register online and only takes a few minutes.

“The system changed last Summer and if you are in any doubt as to whether you are registered, please call the team on 01702 215010.”

Being registered means that you can vote in relevant elections and it could also help you to gain credit.
