I thought it would be fun this week to review a restaurant a little further afield, a kind of ‘Foodie Rich Away Day!’ So where better to start, than jumping on a train and going ‘up town’ for a bit of lunch at the Ivy.

There has been a little row of Italian eateries just above the arches in Westcliff for as long as I can remember. All of them seem to do very well; they are always packed out at weekends and when a show is on at the Cliffs Pavilion.
Bourgee Review
I admire Bourgee, they have certainly taken a gamble here, opening a fine dining restaurant along the golden mile, which is more renowned for burgers and doughnuts, rather than Michelin guide quality food.
The Boatyards ‘Buble Fever’ Review
What a great night, I can’t think of another local venue putting on such nights; this really is unique to the Boatyard, its straight out of the West End. From the moment we walked through the door to getting our cab home its just pure class.
Mangetout Review
Its not just about the wonderful food, you are welcome to pop by for drinks, so not only is Southend now blessed with another great restaurant, we’ve got a new cocktail bar thrown in too!

All week I had been mulling it over, where do we eat at the weekend? A few days ago, I drove past the Cricketers in Westcliff; they had a large yellow sign at the front saying ‘under new management’. Well this got my interest.
Rio Review
Now, Rio is a pretty cool place, by day it’s a laid back bar and restaurant, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch etc. Later in the evening the music is cranked up, the DJ’s arrive and the place is transformed to a funky late night bar.
Peterboat Review
Whenever I mention Leigh to colleagues who live out of town, the majority who have visited our lovely part of the country have fond memories of sitting outside where? Yep, the Peterboat!
Wings Chinese Review
Folks let me share a little secret with you. Probably the best and most authentic Chinese outside China town if not Hong Kong (jeez, that’s a bold statement) is right on our doorstep, yep in Southend, at Wings.
The Grove Review
The food and service exceeded expectations, the staff couldn’t have done more for us, even the chefs said goodbye as we left. I really think the Grove have got it spot on in this little corner of Leigh. So go on, give em a go, and see for yourself!
Henry Burgers Review
We all love a good burger right? I mean, I love fancy fine dining and all that, but there is something quite special about sinking your chops in to a good ol’ juicy burger and a cold beer.

The Sandbar are offering a superb Leigh dining experience. Weather it’s a light lunch or a full blown 3 course evening meal, I am sure you will leave there satisfied.
