Calling Would-Be New Young Market Traders

Calling Would-Be New Young Market Traders
Friday 1st April 2016
Young entrepreneurs are urged to bid for the chance to pitch up in Southend High Street to sell their wares on Sunday 28th May.
Successful applicants aged from 16 to 24 will be able to set up their stalls from 10am until 4pm at a special youth market.
The event coincides with Love your Local Market fortnight: ‘Love Your Local Market’ and offers intrepid young adults from all backgrounds the opportunity to profit from their skills.
Applications are open till 24th April, and ten selected will be asked to pay a £10 pitch fee, to make the experience as similar as possible to the regular market process.
However, their takings will be theirs to keep.
Throughout the day, judges will be watching how the young traders conduct themselves, in a hunt to find Southend Best Youth Trader 2016 and award them with a £100 voucher prize.
Mike Allen, Managing Director of Essex Farmers Markets, will be joined by staff from the Council’s Economic Development team to oversee and support the traders at the event.
For more details and an application form, please visit: http://www.visitsouthend.co.uk/_previewBusiness-on-Sea-Youth-Market.aspx or email: economicd@southend.gov.uk
Applicants could also be put forward to represent Southend-on-Sea in the National Youth Market in Manchester at the beginning of September, with the chance of winning up to £500.
Details on this can be found here: http://www.nmtf.co.uk/nationalyouthmarket/17-campaigns/114-youthmarkets.html
The Council’s Head of Enterprise, Regeneration and Tourism, Scott Dolling said:
“We hope as many young people as possible will apply, because this is such a tremendous opportunity for them to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills. They can earn money while having plenty of fun and getting a taste of real live market trading.
“We also hope residents and visitors will flock to the event to show their support while finding an array of bargains and maybe unusual items on sale.”
