Festive Caroling on Strand Wharf

December 12, 2017 by Leigh-on-Sea Town Council

The snow held out as over 400 people braved the cold to join in Leigh Town Council’s Carols on Strand Wharf event on Saturday. This year we it was especially festive as Santa and his elves kicked off proceeding, thanks to Leigh Lions Club, followed by Carol Bastin singing our favourite carols to the accompaniment of the Salvation Army Band.

The event started slightly earlier than previous years to make it more inclusive to families, a changed which was well received as many children joined in the festivities.

Adding to the twinkly lights on the wharf, were the festive lanterns made earlier at the Fishermen’s Chapel and glow sticks handed out by Leigh Town Council.

Homemade Bakery, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Morrisons, Tescos and the Co-op had all kindly donated plenty of mince pies so there were enough for everyone to enjoy after they had sung all the carols and enjoyed their mulled wine.

Families and friends wrapped up warm to join in this memorable community event and generously supported the charity collection where £268.70 was raised for Alzhemiers Research UK, the chosen charity of Leigh Town Council Chairman Cllr Jane Ward.
