Good Marks For Southend-on-Sea Primary Schools
Good marks for Southend-on-Sea primary schools
Thursday 10th December 2015
New figures show that Southend-on-Sea Primary Schools are progressing well with two thirds achieving better results than the national average.
Local education chiefs have praised the borough’s results in the latest Primary School Performance Table – while also emphasising the need to keep meeting and beating national standards.
Cllr Anne Jones, Executive Councillor for Children and Learning said:
“Congratulations to pupils, teachers and parents for the latest Primary School Performance Table results released today.
“Our schools have kept up last year’s strong performance with 80 per cent of pupils achieving level 4 or above in reading, writing and maths – which is again on a par with the national average.
“We are very pleased to report that 25 per of our pupils achieved a level 5, higher than the national average of 24 per cent.
“Also, 18 schools have improved or maintained their overall result in the main attainment indicator. This shows that our results are continuing to head in the right direction.
I am particularly pleased that 28 per cent of schools achieved over 90 per cent, while two thirds of schools achieved above the national average of 80 per cent.
We are also delighted that three of our schools are among the top ten for South Essex.
“However we still need to ensure that all children in Southend are able to make faster progress. We aim to give Southend children the best possible start in life by striving to achieve the highest standards of education.”
