With the school summer holidays underway, Southend-on-Sea is preparing itself for the huge annual influx of families arriving in the town for seaside fun. In order to ensure they stay safe and enjoy a worry free visit to the Essex coast, the Southend BID is launching an innovative new Child Safety Scheme.

The initiative encourages parents and carers to collect free, yellow wristbands from a number of High Street and seafront businesses on arrival .They then write their telephone number on the reverse and give it to the child to wear - meaning if the youngster inadvertently wanders off they can quickly be reunited with their family and friends (aged from 5 to 9-years old).

Parents and carers are also being given cards to carry containing clear and concise details of what to do if a child in their care goes missing, including the all important 101 number to call.

A group of local children receive their free wristbands from a number of the shop managers signed up to the new scheme, including Karon Schleich (owner of Mr Simms) accompanied by Southend BID Chair Dawn Jeakings and the Southend BID Street Rangers.
