Leigh Library not to close

September 29, 2013

Although no decision has been made as to whether Leigh or Kent Elms will be the hub library for the west of the borough, Nigel Holdcroft - leader of Southend Borough Council and representative of West Leigh constituency - has pledged that whatever the outcome, the library in Broadway West will remain open in its current building. He has however hinted that it may be manned to a greater extent by volunteers.

"The Leigh Library building is iconic and with the library gardens alongside it is important in contributing to the feelgood factor as much as the people using the library."

Thanks must go out to all of you who signed the petition to keep the library open. it has to be assumed that the extent of the public outcry against the proposed closure had some impact on the council's decision. Making your feelings known really can work.

It would appear that Kent Elms and Westcliff are safe from proposed closure too.
