Leigh-on-Sea Farmers’ Market Celebrates 20 Years

July 8, 2020

Leigh-on-Sea Farmers’ market will be celebrating their 20th anniversary this July with a NEW virtual farmers’ market!

Whilst Leigh-on-sea Town Council had hoped to mark the occasion properly at the monthly market within the Community Centre, the current pandemic has unfortunately put pause to plans. Until such time that we can open again, we hope our town will support a unique virtual market on our Facebook page, @LeighTCevents on Saturday 25th July 2020.

The farmers’ market, which is hosted by Leigh-on-Sea Town Council, is the longest running farmers’ market in Essex and an integral part of our community. Small and friendly, the ethos of the market remains unchanged since it was first set up in the year 2000…to support local produce. The stall holders must have grown or made the goods themselves, and all traders come from within a 30 mile radius of Leigh-on-Sea.

The late Councillor Janet Hammond, had been campaigning for some time for a local farmers’ market and had travelled throughout Essex to gain appropriate knowledge and contacts. Her efforts came to fruition in 2000 with the support from then Council Chairman, Donald Fraser.

The virtual market will advertise the excellent range of products available from our stallholders including bread, vegan products, organic vegetables, eggs, honey, cheese, cakes, biscuits, skin products and more. Information about where to buy these goods during lockdown, special offers to mark the anniversary and a fantastic prize draw will be announced on the day. For more details, including how to enter the prize draw please visit the town council website and facebook page.

As the community try to navigate through the pressures of this pandemic, Leigh-on-sea Town Council will strive to support our town and traders, delivering new and tailored services and events. We encourage you to continue to support the market by following our Facebook page and attending our virtual market on Saturday 25th July.
