Pedalling to Paris for Havens

August 22, 2013

A team of Leigh residents have cycled from London to Paris to raise money to buy a specialist mattress for patients cared for by Havens Hospices. Louise McKay and her husband Patrick cycled the 320 mile route along with two of their friends, Gina and Conrad Stevenson. The trip took four days in temperatures up to 36 degrees, finally finishing under the iconic Eiffel Tower. So far the group have managed to raise £4,600, enough to buy a specialist pressure-releiving mattress which gives comfort and minimises the risk of bed sores for patients staying at the hospice's In-Patient Unit. The team trained by cycling for eight hours every weekend in preparation for the trip which took place at the same time as the Tour De France. The team is still welcoming donations at www.justgiving.com/StevensonMcKaysParis
