Reiki
Reiki, the word, is Japanese and it means ‘spiritual energy’.
Rei – Spiritual, Ki – Energy.
Reiki is the name given to a method of natural healing that works with life force energy, using specific techniques and principles to relax and release any energy blockages.
Reiki is the vital life energy which flows through all living things and which can be utilised for the purpose of therapeutic treatments. Reiki practitioners believe that everyone has the ability to connect to their own healing energy and use it for the purposes of strengthening the Ki (energy) of others.
It is a safe, non-intrusive, non-diagnostic and non-manipulative therapy that can help to de-stress, re-balance and re-charge the mind, body and spirit, which was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century and was brought to the West by Hawayo Takata in 1938.
Reiki’s gentle energy is safe for people of all ages, including pregnant mothers, newborns and surgical patients. I personally have used Reiki on my daughter during the whole of her pregnancy and I regularly use it on my 17month old granddaughter.
Reiki can enhance everyday living and regular sessions may help to develop a healthier and more resourceful state of being. Reiki is being used in some GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, cancer support groups as well as complementary therapy centers and private practices.
A session is usually carried out with the recipient / client lying down or sitting in a clean, comfortable and peaceful environment. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through all materials including plaster casts.
The practitioner places their hands gently on or over the body and channels the energy (Ki) through their hands to the recipient, activating the body's natural ability to support itself. During the session the recipient may experience a mild tingling sensation or feel warm, or cool, most however feel calm and totally relaxed.
