Robs Renovation Part 4 - Planning Permission has been granted!

January 12, 2015 by Rob Kahl

I don't know whether to laugh or cry?

Woo hoo, planning permission was granted this week for my extension works at home which is fabulous news.

The only problem now, is that this adventure that we are due to embark on is becoming all the more real!

I have spoken to the architect and we now need to instruct a structural engineer to work out what sort or steel work we require to keep the house from falling down when we remove the back wall. The architect also now needs to produce what are called 'builders drawings' so that we can get specific, detailed quotes from prospective builders.

It already looks like an en suite has bitten the dust due to financial restraints and some of the funky glass that the architect has drawn looks like it is going to be far too expensive so compromises are already having to be made.

We have been looking at kitchens and obviously the choice is baffling. We have a rough idea of a layout we would prefer and it is now a case of what style we go for, colours, appliances, detailing and the highest quality along with durability we can afford for our budget.

Reality is, I think that this is going to be an awfully long road which is going to have hundreds of decisions that need to be made but, we will brace ourselves and crack on!

Ill update you soon on progress and any local kitchen shops or builders I can recommend... afterall, it's good to keep it local!
