Salvation Army leaders thank community for generosity at Christmas

January 7, 2026

Christmas in Leigh-on-Sea would not feel complete without the familiar sound of the Salvation Army band playing along the Broadway and through Old Leigh, uniting the community and spreading festive cheer among residents and visitors year after year.

The leaders of The Salvation Army in Leigh-on-Sea say they want to thank individuals, businesses and organisations who supported their work during Christmas and throughout the year, helping bring hope, practical help and compassion to people in need.

Across the community, donations of money, food, gifts and time once again made a significant difference, enabling The Salvation Army and the community to support vulnerable individuals and families at what can be a particularly challenging time of year.

Major Robert Davis leads the church and charity in Leigh-on-Sea with Captain Clare Davis.

Robert said:

“Christmas reminds us of the very best of our community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who gave so generously – whether through donations, volunteering, prayer, or encouragement. Your kindness has helped us reach people who might otherwise feel forgotten or alone.”

He also emphasised that support during Christmas reflects an ongoing commitment that lasts all year.

Robert added: “While Christmas is a vital time for our work, the needs we respond to don’t end in December. Thanks to the continued generosity of our supporters throughout the year, we are able to offer ongoing care, friendship and practical help to those facing hardship in our community.”

The Salvation Army’s work includes supporting people experiencing loneliness, financial difficulty, homelessness, and other challenges, as well as providing community activities, pastoral support and opportunities for connection.

Clare added: “Every act of kindness – no matter how small it may seem – has a real and lasting impact. On behalf of everyone we serve, thank you for standing with us and helping us to be there when it matters most.”

The Salvation Army remains committed to serving the community year-round and welcomes continued support from anyone wishing to be involved through giving, volunteering or local activities.
