Southend Airport announces coronavirus statement

London Southend Airport has released a statement to reassure customers that it is doing its upmost to follow Government guidance.

It states that airlines have temporarily reduced flights following the coronavirus outbreak, with most flights being suspended due to the non-essential travel advice given by the Government.

The advice given by the airport for customers due to fly is: "We advise customers to contact their airline directly to check travel options available to them."

Glyn Jones, CEO of Stobart Aviation, said: “This unprecedented time is exceptionally challenging for the airport. Our first priority is the safety of our employees and customers and I want to reassure you that we continue to follow Government advice and best practice.

“A COVID-19 action plan was developed in late February and is updated continuously as the Government response evolves.

“Deep cleaning processes and isolation areas have been introduced and we are providing employees with advice should they or anyone in their household display symptoms. Passengers are provided with advice and appropriate facilities on departure and arrival.” 

The announcement also responded to residents' concers: "Outbound cargo flights continue to operate in order to provide essential items to affected countries during the crisis. In response to some residents’ concerns we would like to reassure everyone that strict protocols are being followed at all times.  All aircraft are thoroughly cleaned after each rotation. The crew remains with the aircraft upon landing at their destination and has no direct contact with other people."
