Southend College students to capture LuminoCity

February 9, 2022

Southend LuminoCity joins forces with Southend Adult Community College (SACC) to offer students the opportunity to photograph the stunning light installations.

Tutors and students from the college will be some of the first to tour the installations in the evening to see them at their very best when they are fully illuminated and to photograph them to gain experience of a live event. Selected photographs will be exhibited at venues across the City so that residents and future visitors can relive the magic of the festival.

Students from digital photography, 16-19 Study Programme and learners from the English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses will all have an opportunity to photograph the international artworks. The theme for their photographs will be Pride and Joy, reflecting the Council’s 2050 ambition, and the pride in the newly awarded city status and the joy visitors to the festival will experience and share.

Ros Parker OBE, principal of Southend Adult Community College, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our learners have been given an amazing opportunity to capture the magic of our City being illuminated in this way. We are all really proud of the progress our learners are making and to be taking their part in this unique celebration in the heart of our community”

Southend LuminoCity takes place between Wednesday 16 – Saturday 19 February across Southend-on-Sea High Street, leading to the Pier, including an installation on the seafront. Full details of all the installations and their locations can be found at www.southendlumiocity.co.uk. A free guide to the festival with all locations for the installations can be obtained from local shops and businesses from Monday 14 February.
