Southend-on-Sea Pier took delivery of the first eco-friendly train

On Tuesday 28th September, Southend-on-Sea Pier took delivery of the first eco-friendly train.

Cllr Martin Terry, cabinet member for public protection with a responsibility for pier and foreshore, said: “The new eco-friendly electric pier train arrived at the pier in the early morning, as the sun was coming up on what is an exciting and historic day for the town.

Once in place, we will spend a few weeks running safety checks and spending time training staff on the maintenance and operation of the new greener vehicles, but once up and running it will be a fantastic new attraction for our wonderful iconic landmark and provide a much-needed boost for the town.
