Southend prepares to clean for the Queen!

Monday 29th February 2016

Why not give your neighbourhood an extra special brush up to help celebrate the landmark birthday of Her Majesty the Queen?

The Council is inviting residents to join Britain’s clean-up efforts this weekend - 4th, 5th and 6th March - in honour of Queen’s forthcoming 90th birthday on Thursday 21st April.

This special Clean for The Queen campaign is a nationwide community bid to inspire friends and neighbours to team up to clear litter locally.

Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Martin Terry said: “This new venture being launched across the country is a marvellous opportunity for Southend people to join together and tackle any untidy sites or lurking litter near where they live.

“It is supported by all of the anti-litter organisations and can involve everyone ranging from community groups, youth groups and schools to businesses and individuals.

“We warmly encourage people to register their own event or join one already planned, in order to work with others and help clean for the Queen.

“This can be done via: www.cleanforthequeen.co.uk where any events big or small can be registered.

“Once you have done this, please don’t forget to let the Council know on 01702 215000 so we can support your event and help collect any litter you have removed.”
