Take a spin back into the past

Wednesday 16th September 2015

Why not join Southend cyclists turning back the wheels of time at the annual Tweed and Vintage Fun Ride on Sunday 20th September.

This popular and mainly off-road bike ride, starts at 2pm at Belfairs Woodland Centre Eastwood Road North, Leigh SS9 4LR, and ends at around 3:30pm in Southchurch Park.

Participants are invited to dress up in their best tweed and vintage outfits or just come along to join in.

So, dig out those tailored trews, fabulous frocks and handsome headgear to add to the jollity.

It is free to attend, but if you would like to book a cream tea (pot of tea and scone with jam and cream) for £3.50 each, or an afternoon tea (sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a pot of tea) for £6.50 each from Southchurch Park Café, you will need to call 01702 215595 or email: cyclesouthend@southend.gov.uk beforehand.

One lucky winner can also look forward to claiming a cream tea as their winnings in a prize draw run by businesses for their staff as part of the special cycle to work day on Thursday 3rd September.

Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Martin Terry said: “It is always a treat to see the efforts people go to help this annual Tweed and Vintage fun ride go with such a swing, so we hope as many as possible will come along this year.

“A leisurely cycle ride along a route that mainly avoids roads, with the prospect of a cream tea at the end of it, is an ideal Sunday afternoon excursion.

“This is another opportunity to help encourage people to find out – or to rediscover the enjoyment and the benefits of cycling.”
