The waiting is over. So what now?

The waiting is over. So what now?

On May 7th, the Conservatives confounded the opinion polls by coming in with a clear majority and the business community appeared to breathe a sigh of relief. Plenty of promises have been made but will they be kept? How long will they take to implement?

What does it really mean for the small business?
The Federation of Small Business (FSB) has reiterated what they want from the new government.

They surveyed their members for issues that they would like to the new government to focus on over the next term. The key points were:-

  • Reduce the regulatory burden
  • Introduce a more simplified tax system
  • Reform business rates
  • Improve the employability skills of young people
  • Deliver improved broadband / mobile connectivity
  • Help UK SME’s create more jobs
  • Tackle late payments
  • Lower energy costs for businesses
  • Ensure better access to finance
  • Increase investment in the infrastructure

These are very clear messages to the Government. We all have an MP that represents us in Parliament and it is our responsibility that if they are not performing we keep up the pressure.

At this time Southend Council have re-opened their funding program for local businesses that need finance for projects and also grants for broadband installations are also available.
