Unique pianist gives sparkling Southend concert

Tuesday 27th October 2015

An inspiring concert pianist, whose career flourishes despite only having one hand, is performing in Southend on Friday 20th November.

Nicholas McCarthy, who was born without his right hand, will be making his Southend debut from 8pm at the Plaza Centre, Southchurch Road, Southend, SS1 2PT.

He studied at London’s prestigious Royal College of Music and made history in 2012 as the only left hand alone pianist to have graduated from the College in its 130 year history.

The same year Nicholas appeared with the British Para Orchestra at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic games and his performing career has since taken him from Europe to America, South Africa and Korea.

In Southend his programme will include music by Scriabin, Gershwin, Liszt, Schubert, Strauss, Chopin and more.

Nicholas performs original works for the left hand as well as arrangements of other solo piano works.

Tickets at £9 (or £8 for concessions) with discounts for the Council’s Concert Club members are available from the Plaza Centre in Southchurch Road, Southend, Allegro Music in London Road, Westcliff, the Visitor Information Centre on Southend Pier and at the concert on the night.

Tickets can also be purchased in advance from 01702 215011 on Mondays to Fridays during office hours.

This amazing performance is another exciting event in the Council’s regular Concert series, which offers residents and visitors the chance to attend excellent chamber music concerts locally at affordable prices.
